چکیده

Abstract The two-centre wave-packet convergent close-coupling approach to ion–atom collisions is extended study proton with molecular hydrogen including electron-capture channels. We use a model potential represent the target as an effective one-electron spherically symmetric system. This greatly simplifies structure, allowing us already existing code developed for ion single-electron targets. Calculated total cross sections electron capture, single ionisation, and excitation processes generally agree well experimental data other theoretical calculations where available. However, capture section found overestimate at low energies, while ionisation slightly underestimated. Additionally, we present state-resolved into 1s, 2 $$\ell $$ ℓ , 3 states of projectile deviation between various previous substantial. Our results lead overall improvement over studies although discrepancies experiment are observed 3p 3d capture. conclude that treating system within coupled-channel targets can give reasonably accurate intermediate high without need complex computationally demanding two-electron representation.

Charm in Electron–proton Collisions

Charm in electron–proton collisions is a particularly large and interesting field. For this summary two topics particularly relevant for HERA have been selected. First the study of inelastic J/ψ production in both the photoproduction and the electroproduction regime, study still needed to clarify the J/ψ production mechanisms. Second the analysis of D photoproduction events, study than can lead...

Spin exchange rates in proton-hydrogen collisions

The spin temperature of neutral hydrogen, which determines the optical depth and brightness of the 21 cm line, is determined by the competition between radiative and collisional processes. Here we examine the role of proton-hydrogen collisions in setting the spin temperature. We use recent fully quantum-mechanical calculations of the relevant cross sections, which allow us to present accurate r...

Truncated BFKL Series in Electron-Proton Collisions

We study the contribution of the truncated BFKL Pomeron series to the electroproduction process showing that a reliable description is obtained taking into account two orders in perturbation theory. Using the recent F2 logarithmic slope data as a constraint to the adjustable parameters, the inclusive structure function is described in a wide range of the small x HERA kinematical region, consist...

Spin exchange rates in electron-hydrogen collisions

The spin temperature of neutral hydrogen, which determines the 21 cm optical depth and brightness temperature, is set by the competition between radiative and collisional processes. In the high-redshift intergalactic medium, the dominant collisions are typically those between hydrogen atoms. However, collisions with electrons couple much more efficiently to the spin state of hydrogen than do co...

Impact-velocity dependence of ejected-electron distributions for ionization in proton-hydrogen collisions

Ab initio calculations of ejected-electron momentum distributions are presented for proton on hydrogen collisions at impact energies ranging from 5 to 100 keV and an impact parameter of 1.2 a.u. At low energies the transverse momentum distributions show a double-peak structure similar to what is predicted by a two-state Sturmian theory @Macek and Ovchinnikov, Phys. Rev. Lett. 80, 2298 ~1998!#. ...
